About Oxyopes flavipalpis (Lucas, 1858)
This species, Oxyopes flavipalpis, has been described from both male and female specimens. Its body color varies between individual specimens, while female individuals consistently retain the same epigyne shape. The observed color variation has not yet been confirmed through formal taxonomic revision. Oxyopes flavipalpis is distributed across Ethiopia, Somalia, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Eswatini. Within South Africa, the species has been recorded in multiple provinces, at altitudes ranging from 52 to 1,694 meters above sea level. Oxyopes flavipalpis is found on grasses and trees across a range of biomes, including Forest, Fynbos, Grassland, Savanna, and Thicket biomes. It produces irregular pinkish egg sacs on the surfaces of leaves. The species has also been documented in sugar cane fields, which indicates it can adapt to agricultural environments.
