About Oxalis laxa Hook. & Arn.

Oxalis laxa Hook. & Arn., commonly known as dwarf woodsorrel, is an annual plant with fibrous roots. Its upright stems reach a maximum height of 20 centimeters. It produces leaves both at the plant base and along its stems, and these leaves are attached by petioles (leaf stems) that can grow up to 5 centimeters long. Each leaf is divided into leaflets that measure roughly 1.3 centimeters long and have sparse hairs. The flowers of this species have yellow, oblong petals that are less than 1.2 centimeters long. It forms an egg-shaped capsule fruit that grows to approximately 5 millimeters in length. Dwarf woodsorrel is native to Argentina, Chile, Peru, and the Juan Fernández Islands. It has been introduced to Ecuador, and in North America it occurs as an introduced weed in California. It has been recorded in California's North Coast and Sierra Nevada foothills, growing at elevations up to 1,000 meters (3,300 ft).
