About Ostorhinchus hoevenii (Bleeker, 1854)

Ostorhinchus hoevenii (Bleeker, 1854) is a species of ray-finned fish belonging to the cardinalfish family Apogonidae. This fish is native to the Indo-West Pacific region, ranging north to Japan and south to Australia. It occasionally enters the aquarium trade, and reaches a maximum total length of 6 cm. It lives in small groups that inhabit areas among corals, sea urchins, crinoids, and algae. Its specific name honors the 19th-century Dutch zoologist Jan van der Hoeven, who lived from 1801 to 1868.
