About Ostorhinchus fleurieu Lacepède, 1802
This species of fish is coppery-coloured, with a broad blackish bar at the base of the tail, and reaches a maximum length of 12.5 cm. Juvenile individuals have a spot at the base of the tail instead of a bar. A narrow blue streak runs along the upper jaw, and a broad blackish stripe extends from the front of the snout to the eye. This species is easily confused with Ostorhinchus aureus; in O. aureus, the black tail bar is narrower in the centre than it is at the ends. Adult Ostorhinchus fleurieu live in small schools formed of pairs of fish, at depths ranging from 7 meters to at least 73 meters, in association with coral reefs. They are most commonly found in shallow coral reef areas with moderate currents, and can also occur in small to large schools that shelter in crevices.
