About Orthonyx spaldingii E.P.Ramsay, 1868
This species is an unmistakable thrush-like, ground-dwelling bird. Both males and females are mostly dark brown with a white eye-ring, and the shafts of their tail feathers extend past the feather vanes like small spines. Males have white coloring on the throat, breast, and belly. Females have bright rufous coloring on the throat and upper breast, and white coloring on the lower breast and belly. The chowchilla is found only in the upland and lowland tropical rainforests of north-eastern Queensland.
