About Orthogeomys hispidus (Le Conte, 1852)
The hispid pocket gopher is a rodent species belonging to the family Geomyidae. Its scientific name is currently accepted as Heterogeomys hispidus, though some authors have previously classified it in the genus Orthogeomys, with the binomial Orthogeomys hispidus (Le Conte, 1852). This species is distributed across Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. Recent research has supported classifying this species and its close relatives in the genus Heterogeomys.
