Orthocarpus imbricatus Torr. ex S.Watson is an annual herb. It grows a slender, hairy green stem that reaches up to approximately 35 centimeters in height. Its leaves are lance-shaped and can grow up to 5 centimeters long. The plant's inflorescence forms a dense, cylindrical spike made up of wide netted bracts that have pinkish tips. Flowers only just barely emerge from between these bracts. Each flower is about one centimeter long. Its narrow, hooked, beak-shaped upper lip is pink, and its expanded, pouched lower lip is yellowish.
