About Orthocarpus cuspidatus Greene
Orthocarpus cuspidatus Greene is a species of flowering plant in the broomrape family. It goes by three common names: Copeland's owl's clover, Siskiyou Mountains orthocarpus, and toothed owl's-clover. This plant is native to mountain and plateau habitats located in Oregon, California, and Nevada. It is an annual herb that grows a slender, glandular, hairy purple-green stem that can reach up to roughly 40 centimeters in height. Its narrow leaves grow up to 5 centimeters long; the upper leaves are deeply divided into three linear lobes. The plant's inflorescence is a dense cylindrical spike made up of wide, oval green bracts with pinkish points. Flowers grow out from between these bracts. Each purple-pink flower has a fuzzy texture and a club shape: its lower lip forms an expanded pouch, while its upper lip is a narrow, straight beak.
