Orthetrum chrysis (Selys, 1891) is a medium-sized dragonfly. This species has a dark thorax, and males have a characteristic blood-red abdomen. Females of the species have an ochreous brown abdomen. It is very similar in shape and size to the related species Orthetrum pruinosum, but the two species can be distinguished by differences in abdomen color. Orthetrum chrysis breeds in pools and marshes.
