About Ortalis wagleri G.R.Gray, 1867

The rufous-bellied chachalaca (Ortalis wagleri G.R.Gray, 1867) is 62 to 67 cm (2.0 to 2.2 ft) long, and weighs approximately 834 g (1.8 lb). Most of its plumage is gray brown to olive brown. It has a chestnut belly and chestnut tail tips, which make it the most richly colored species in its genus. It has bare pink and blue skin surrounding the eye. The rufous-bellied chachalaca is distributed in western Mexico, ranging from southern Sonora south to northwestern Jalisco. It lives in tropical deciduous forest, semi-deciduous forest, thorn forest, and mangroves along the coast. Most individuals occur between sea level and 1,300 m (4,300 ft) in elevation, though the species has been recorded as high as 2,000 m (6,600 ft).
