About Ornithoglossum vulgare B.Nord.
Ornithoglossum vulgare B.Nord., called slangkop in Afrikaans, is a member of the lily family. It is identifiable by its blueish to grey-green, boat-shaped leaves that clasp the stem, and it bears an attractive flower arrangement. This plant usually reaches around 30 cm in height, though it can grow taller when it receives more moisture. It is widely distributed across arid and semi-arid regions of Namibia, South Africa, and East Africa, but it is not found in the far northern part of Namibia. Within Namibia, it grows primarily on plains, and is occasionally found growing on rocky slopes. This bulb-forming plant is toxic, and can cause issues in grazing rangelands.
