About Orites lancifolius F.Muell.
Orites lancifolius, commonly called alpine orites, is a shrub that belongs to the Proteaceae plant family. This species is endemic to south-eastern Australia. It has a spreading growth habit, and can grow either prostrate, or reach up to 2 metres (6 ft 7 in) in height. Its leaves measure 1 to 3 cm (0.4 to 1.2 in) in length, and 5 to 12 mm in width. In its native range, flowers ranging from white to pale yellow bloom between December and January, which is early to mid summer. The species was first formally described in 1855 by botanist Ferdinand von Mueller. Mueller described it based on plant material he collected "on the rocky summits of the Australian Alps (5-6000 feet high)". Orites lancifolius grows in alpine and subalpine areas of New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and Victoria, where it occurs in heath and tussock grassland among granite rocks.
