About Oriolus larvatus Lichtenstein, 1823
The black-headed oriole, with the scientific name Oriolus larvatus Lichtenstein, 1823, has a bright yellow body, a contrasting black head, and a flesh-coloured beak. Its voice is a liquid-sounding warble, which is accompanied by imitations and whistles. This bird breeds across most of sub-Saharan Africa, ranging from South Sudan and Ethiopia in the north to South Africa in the south. It lives in dry tropical forests, especially acacia and broad-leaved woodlands, and dense shrubland areas. Even though its plumage is very bright, it is more often heard than seen in these habitats. Black-headed orioles forage in the tree canopy. They eat small fruit and large insects, and caterpillars make up most of the diet fed to young birds.
