About Oriens gola (Moore, 1877)

Oriens gola, commonly known as the common dartlet, is a species of butterfly belonging to the family Hesperiidae. This butterfly is distributed across a range that extends from Sri Lanka and India, where it occurs in Kumaon, Sikkim, and Assam, eastward to Burma, Thailand, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, and Sumatra. The wingspan of adult common dartlets measures approximately 22 to 27 mm. The base color of the species' wings is dark brown. Both forewings and hindwings have yellowish-orange or amber discal bands, which are outlined by black shading on the wing underside. The veins that run through these bands are not darkened. The underside of the wings (verso) matches the general appearance of the upper side (recto), but the yellow markings on the verso cover a larger area. The larvae of Oriens gola feed on grass species from the genera Imperata and Paspalum, as well as on the species Ottochloa nodosa.
