About Orgyia recens (Hübner, 1819)
Telochurus recens, commonly called the scarce vapourer, is a moth in the subfamily Lymantriinae that occurs in Europe. This species was first formally described by Jacob Hübner in 1819. Males have a wingspan ranging from 35 to 40 millimetres, or 1.4 to 1.6 inches, while females of this species are wingless. Depending on location, the adult moth is active in flight from June to July. The larvae of this species feed on a variety of deciduous tree species, including trees in the Crataegus and Salix genera. This species has often been classified as part of the genus Orgyia, but molecular analysis data supports moving it out of that genus and placing it in the genus Telochurus instead. Its scientific name is also cited as Orgyia recens (Hübner, 1819).
