About Oreocereus pseudofossulatus D.R.Hunt
Oreocereus pseudofossulatus grows in a shrubby form, producing irregular branches in its lower half and reaching a maximum height of 2 meters. Its light green shoots measure 5 to 8 centimeters (2.0 to 3.1 inches) in diameter. This cactus has 10 to 13 straight, tuberous ribs. Its spines are typically straw yellow, and rarely reddish. A single, prominent central spine 2 to 5 centimeters (0.79 to 1.97 inches) long starts out protruding before angling slightly downward. It also has 10 to 14 radial spines, each up to 6 millimeters (0.24 inches) long. The species produces tubular, crooked-edged greenish pink to bluish red flowers that grow near shoot tips and reach up to 9 centimeters (3.5 inches) long. Its fleshy, ellipsoid fruits range from greenish yellow to brownish red and do not split open when mature. Oreocereus pseudofossulatus is widespread in the Rio La Paz valley of the Bolivian department of La Paz, where it grows at altitudes between 1800 and 3800 meters.
