About Opuntia aurea E.M.Baxter

Opuntia aurea E.M.Baxter is a prostrate cactus that forms irregularly sprawling plants reaching about three feet across. Its cladodes grow up to 10 cm long, and sometimes reach 15 cm; occasionally a single pad may grow upright. The areoles are slightly sunken. This cactus can be completely spineless, bear just a few spines, or have multiple spines. When spines are present, they may only grow on the distal areoles. Its flowers range in color from pale yellow to strong pink. The fruits are typically spineless, but a few spines may appear at the apex. The seeds are circular, with diameters around 7 to 8 mm.
