About Optivus elongatus (Günther, 1859)

The slender roughy, scientifically named Optivus elongatus, is a fish species that belongs to the family Trachichthyidae. Before 2004, when two additional species were formally described, the slender roughy was thought to be the only existing species in the genus Optivus. This species occurs in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, in waters surrounding New Zealand, and it can be found at depths ranging from 10 meters (33 feet) to 100 meters (328 feet). The maximum recorded standard length of this fish is 102 millimeters (4.0 inches), while its maximum recorded total overall length is 120 millimeters (4.7 inches).
