About Oplismenus hirtellus (L.) P.Beauv.
Oplismenus hirtellus (L.) P.Beauv. has distinctly crimped leaves. Its lower leaf surface is whitish, and leaves are very narrow near the midrib. Each leaf has hairs and between 10 and 15 nerves on either side. This species grows to 0.3 metres (1 foot) in height. Its flowering stalk is positioned 200 millimetres (7.9 inches) above the leaves, and it bears sticky, purple-colored awns. Flowers bloom from December to June. This is a self-pollinating plant, and its seeds attract a range of animals and birds. The seeds are sticky, so they adhere easily to animal fur and human clothing, and are readily distributed by animals and humans.
