Opistophthalmus carinatus, commonly called the robust burrowing scorpion, is a widespread scorpion species found in the drier regions of southern Africa. As a burrowing scorpion, it often digs its burrow next to a large rock. Compared to other species in the Opistophthalmus genus, it has an especially sturdy body and large pinchers.
