Ophrys umbilicata Desf. is a perennial, erect, glabrous herb that grows 10โ€“20 cm tall. Its leaves are alternate, simple, entire, thick, and narrowly elliptic, with parallel veins. Flowers are arranged spirally at the top of the stem; sepals measure 10โ€“15 by 6โ€“9 mm, and petals are small. The labellum is wider in its distal half, measures 9โ€“12 mm, has three teeth at the apex, and is purple to blackish. This species flowers from March to April, and produces a capsule fruit.
