About Ophrys tenthredinifera Willd.

Ophrys tenthredinifera Willd., commonly called the sawfly orchid, is a terrestrial orchid species. It is native to the Mediterranean region, spanning the area from Portugal and Morocco to Turkey. Its common name comes from the supposed resemblance between its flower and the sawfly, a wasp-like insect. Many subspecies, varieties, and forms of this species have been proposed, but as of May 2014, none of these proposed taxa are recognized.
