About Ophioglossum engelmannii Prantl
Ophioglossum engelmannii, commonly called the limestone adder's-tongue, is a fern species native to the Western Hemisphere. It is widespread and native to the United States, Mexico, and Central America. Its primary natural habitat is dry barrens and glades located in calcareous areas. This small species produces new leaves in spring, then dies back in summer. A second crop of leaves sometimes grows after fall rains.
