About Ophiocordyceps nutans (Pat.) G.H.Sung, J.M.Sung, Hywel-Jones & Spatafora
Ophiocordyceps nutans (Pat.) G.H.Sung, J.M.Sung, Hywel-Jones & Spatafora is an entomopathogenic fungus. It is classified in the family Ophiocordycipitaceae, order Hypocreales, phylum Ascomycota. This fungus only parasitizes Hemipterans, specifically stinkbugs. In Korea, it is one of the most common species broadly referred to as Cordyceps. Like other Cordyceps species, O. nutans is mainly classified morphologically based on three traits: its colour, the shape of its fruit bodies, and the species of its insect host. Stinkbugs cause significant damage to agriculture and forestry. The anamorph of O. nutans, named Hymenostilbe nutans, is a potential selective biological control agent for managing stinkbugs. Ophiocordyceps nutans has been recorded in tropical forest regions of Japan, Taiwan, China, New Guinea, and Korea, and also occurs in other additional locations.
