About Opheodesoma spectabilis Fisher, 1907
Opheodesoma spectabilis has flexible, wormlike bodies, with a mouth surrounded by tentacles. This species varies in color: it is a shade of gray when above water, and becomes a rich chocolate brown or "bloodsucker" red when under water. This species occurs in subtropical and tropical regions, including New Caledonia, Hawaii, the Indo-Pacific, East Africa, and Guam. It is typically found on the ocean floor, living within sand, rubble, shells, and the brown alga Sargassum.
