About Oophaga granulifera (Taylor, 1958)

The granular poison frog, Oophaga granulifera (Taylor, 1958), is a small frog with slender limbs that reaches a length of around 20 mm (0.8 in). Its skin has a fine granular texture. Typical colouration consists of bright orange on the head, body, and upper arms, with bluish-green underparts, legs, and lower arms. A colour morph found near Quepos, Costa Rica, replaces the typical orange colour with olive green. This species is native to Costa Rica and Panama. Its range stretches from southwestern Costa Rica into the adjacent area of southwestern Panama, occurring at elevations up to 100 m (328 ft) above sea level. It is also found in Piedras Blancas National Park in southeastern Costa Rica. It lives in the leaf litter on the floor of humid low-altitude forests.
