About Olivierus martensii (Karsch, 1879)

Olivierus martensii is a scorpion species that belongs to the family Buthidae. Its common names are Chinese scorpion, Manchurian scorpion, Chinese armor-tail scorpion, and Chinese golden scorpion. Contrary to what some of its common names suggest, this species is not found only in China or Manchuria; it also lives in Mongolia and Korea. There is a doubtful record of this species occurring in Japan. This scorpion prefers to live in warm, dry areas that have very little vegetation. Adults of O. martensii reach approximately 6 centimetres (2.4 inches) in total length, females are typically slightly larger than males, and the species has an average lifespan of around 4 to 6 years.
