About Oinophila v-flava (Haworth, 1828)
Oinophila v-flava, commonly known as the yellow v moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Tineidae. It has a widespread distribution across temperate regions, ranging from Europe to South Africa, North America, and Hawaii. This species was first recorded in New Zealand in 2001, and it is considered to have become a permanently established population there. The adult wingspan of Oinophila v-flava measures approximately 10 mm. In western Europe, adult moths are active between July and September, and they typically fly during the evening. The larvae of this species feed on a variety of dry plant material and the bark of shrubs. The moth is often very commonly found in human homes, especially in cellars. In these indoor spaces, larvae have been reported to cause damage to dried foods and wine corks.
