About Oegoconia quadripuncta Haworth, 1829

This species, Oegoconia quadripuncta, has adult moths that fly from May to August in North America, and between July and August in Europe, with timing varying by location. Adults are active at night but can be lured in by light. Their wingspan measures 11 to 17 millimeters, and their bodies are generally blackish. Each forewing has two light yellow spots or bands, and the pronotum region is also light yellow — this distinct pattern gives the species its common name "four-spotted yellowneck". However, closely related species share this same or a very similar pattern. In some cases, such as with O. deauratella, species can only be told apart through microscopic examination of their genitalia. The caterpillars of Oegoconia quadripuncta live in leaf litter, and feed on detritus including rotting wood.
