About Oebalus pugnax (Fabricius, 1775)

Adult Oebalus pugnax (rice stink bug) range in length from 0.375 inches (9.5 mm) to 0.50 inches (13 mm). Like other stink bugs, they have a narrow profile that forms the characteristic shield shape. These true bugs are most commonly straw-colored, with sharp points at the apex of the shield and a yellow triangle at the center of the shield. Some adults have gray coloring near the yellow triangle, while others may be darker brown instead of straw-colored. Oebalus pugnax can be easily distinguished from other stink bugs such as the brown marmorated stink bug by its narrower profile and lighter color.
