About Odites ricinella (Stainton, 1859)

Odites ricinella is a species of moth belonging to the family Depressariidae. It was first described by Henry Tibbats Stainton in 1859, and is known to be found in India. The species' forewings gradually widen to a point beyond the middle, then narrow slightly; their hind margin is truncate, and the whole forewing is ochreous in base color, marked with numerous small brown spots. One larger, darker brown spot sits on the disc of the wing before the middle. A curved row of brown dots often appears toward the wing apex, and the hind margin of the forewing is also spotted with brown. The hindwings are whitish, with only a small number of brown dots on their apical margin. The larvae of Odites ricinella feed on Ricinus communis, and roll the edge of a host leaf to form a shelter. The larvae themselves are bright green with black heads.
