Ocypode ryderi Kingsley, 1880 can be identified by the following characteristics. Its body is pale pink, with distinct mauve or purple joints on its legs. It has a square-shaped carapace, and long, sturdy legs. Its eyes sit on long stalks, but do not have the extended horns seen in Ocypode ceratophthalma and some other species in the Ocypode genus. On the palm of the larger of its two nippers, there is a granular stridulating organ made up of a single row of granules. On average, adult individuals reach 35 millimetres (1.4 inches) in length.
