Nymphaea ampla (Salisb.) DC. is a perennial aquatic herb. It has dark brown, ovoid, unbranched rhizomes, and does not produce stolons. Its floating leaves are leathery, shaped ovate to orbiculate, with toothed margins; each leaf measures 15 to 45 centimeters in both length and width. Its flowers are yellowish white, fragrant, open during the day, 7 to 18 centimeters wide, and extend well above the water surface. This species grows in ponds, canals, open freshwater lagoons, and drainage ditches.
