About Nyctemera amicus White, 1841
Nyctemera amicus, commonly called the senecio moth, magpie moth, or cineraria moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. Adam White first described this species in 1841. This moth can be found in South-east Asia, Oceania, most of Australia, and also in New Zealand. The larvae of Nyctemera amicus feed on multiple species within the genus Senecio, including S. linearifolius, S. quadridentatus, S. mikanioides, S. cruentus, and S. scandens. These food plants contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which makes the larvae unpleasant tasting and poisonous to birds.
