Numenius minutus Gould, 1841 is the smallest curlew species. Its plumage is mostly greyish-brown, including the underwings, and it has a white belly. Its curved bill is short compared to the bills of other curlews. It has a head pattern similar to that of the Eurasian whimbrel, with both crown and superciliary stripes. Its call is a repetitive whistle. On average, this species measures 28โ€“31 cm (11โ€“12 in) in length, has a 68โ€“71 cm (27โ€“28 in) wingspan, and weighs 175 grams (6.2 oz).
