About Notocochlis chemnitzii (L.Pfeiffer, 1840)
The shell of Notocochlis chemnitzii is smooth, with four to five whorls and a short spire. Its shell color ranges from grayish-blue to grayish-yellow, marked with arrow-shaped brown and white bands. Some individual specimens have an extra white band on the upper part of their whorls. The interior of the shell is brown. The shell reaches a maximum length of 33 mm (1.3 inches) and a maximum diameter of 31 mm. The species' operculum is white and smooth. This snail species is distributed from Baja California Sur to Peru, including the Gulf of California, and is also present in the Galapagos Islands. It inhabits intertidal zones down to 3 meters (10 feet) deep, living on sand and mud flats.
