About Nothura boraquira (von Spix, 1825)
The white-bellied nothura (scientific name Nothura boraquira, first described by von Spix in 1825) is approximately 27 cm (11 inches) long. Its upper body is light brown, marked with black bars and white streaks. This bird has a white throat, a buff foreneck with black streaking, a buff breast, and a white belly. Its crown is dark brown, while the sides of its head are buff. It has bright yellow legs, and the inner webs of its primaries are uniformly dark, a trait that distinguishes it from the closely related spotted nothura. The white-bellied nothura prefers dry shrubland habitats at altitudes up to 500 m (1,600 ft). It can also occur in dry grassland, savanna, and caatinga, and is occasionally found in pastures. This species is native to northeastern and central Brazil, eastern Bolivia, and Paraguay.
