About Nola aerugula (Hübner)

Nola aerugula (Hübner) is a small moth species with a wingspan of 15–20 mm. Individuals of this species have drab, highly variable coloration and patterning. Their base body color can range from gray, brownish, to almost white, and they feature brown transverse bands. There are both bright, dark, and high-contrast patterned specimens. Their forewings are nearly triangular with a rounded basal area, while their hindwings are gray or brownish. The body is cylindrical, and the antennae are filamentous, reaching approximately half the length of the forewings. This species inhabits sandy areas and peatlands. It is distributed across most of Europe, extending east through eastern Asia to Japan. It was previously a resident species in Kent, and is now only a rare migrant to Great Britain.
