About Nidorellia armata (Gray, 1840)

Nidorellia armata (Gray, 1840) is commonly called the chocolate chip star, a name that easily causes confusion with the species Protoreaster nodosus. This starfish species occurs in warmer areas of the East Pacific, with a range extending from the Gulf of California to northwest Peru, and including the Galápagos. It is the sole species in the monotypic genus Nidorellia. Individuals can be found clinging to corals and rocky reefs in tropical waters, and they are sometimes kept as pets in home marine aquariums.
