About Nicotiana clevelandii A.Gray

Nicotiana clevelandii is an annual herb with glandular tissue and sparse hairs. It produces a slender stem that reaches a maximum height of around 60 centimeters, or 24 inches. Its leaf blades can grow up to 18 centimeters, or 7.1 inches, long; the lower leaves grow on petioles. The inflorescence holds white or green-tinged flowers, each with a tubular throat around 2 centimeters long. The bases of these flowers are enclosed by pointed, unequal-length sepals. The open face of the flower is about 1 centimeter wide, with five mostly white lobes. Its fruit is a capsule around half a centimeter long. The Cahuilla people used this plant for a range of medicinal purposes, and smoked it in rituals.
