About Neviusia alabamensis A.Gray
Neviusia alabamensis A.Gray, commonly known as Alabama snow-wreath, is a small shrub native to the Southeastern United States. This species is considered rare across its entire native range. It occurs in widely scattered populations that extend from northwestern Georgia to the Ozark Mountains. Most of these populations are thought to consist of asexual clones, as no seed production has ever been observed in the species. Due to its thinly scattered distribution and low genetic variability, Neviusia alabamensis is a species of conservation concern. Its natural native habitat is limestone woodlands that receive seasonal moisture. The genus Neviusia contains two additional species: Neviusia cliftonii, an endemic species found only in California, and Neviusia dunthornei, which is extinct.
