About Neriene montana (Clerck, 1757)
Neriene montana (Clerck, 1757), also known by the synonym Linyphia montana, is a spider species that belongs to the family Linyphiidae. It has a Holarctic distribution, and can be found throughout northern Europe. In both sexes, the body length (excluding legs) measures approximately 4 to 7 mm, and males have a slimmer abdomen. Its carapace is dark brown, with a darker midline and darker margins. The abdomen has a broad brown folium marked with pale speckles and small indentations, and this folium is surrounded by a pale area. Its legs are yellow-brown and marked with many annulations. This leg pattern, along with the species' overall size, helps distinguish N. montana from similar related species. N. montana builds a hammock-shaped web in locations including among bushes or low vegetation, on tree trunks, and under logs, and rests underneath this completed web.
