About Neptis serena Overlaet, 1955

Neptis serena, commonly called the serene sailer or river sailer, is a species of butterfly belonging to the family Nymphalidae. It can be found in Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia, northern Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa, and Yemen. Its habitat includes open, grassy banks along streams and rivers, located within forests, heavy woodland, coastal bush, and savanna. Adult males of this species engage in mud-puddling. Adult butterflies are in flight from April to January each year. The species' larvae feed on plants from Cycina species.
