About Nephrotoma flavipalpis (Meigen, 1830)
Nephrotoma flavipalpis (Meigen, 1830) is a species of crane fly. Adults of this species reach a body length of approximately 12โ18 mm (0.47โ0.71 in), and their wing length measures about 10โ18 mm (0.39โ0.71 in). Individuals of this species have a lustrous body, a predominantly yellow head, a short proboscis (rostrum), and verticillate antennae. Their thorax is patterned yellow and black, and their abdomen bears alternating black and yellow bands. A dark stigma is present on their wings. This species is very similar in appearance to Nephrotoma scalaris. It occurs across most of Europe, including Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Denmark, France (including Corsica), Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. It is also found in North Africa, in Algeria and Tunisia. These crane flies typically live in woodlands and hedge rows.
