About Nephroma resupinatum (L.) Ach.
Nephroma resupinatum, commonly called the pimpled kidney lichen, is a foliose lichen species belonging to the family Peltigeraceae. Carl Linnaeus first formally described this species in his 1753 publication Species Plantarum, under the name Lichen resupinatus. Erik Acharius reclassified the species, transferring it to the genus Nephroma in 1810. This lichen has a brown to greyish-brown, tomentose thallus; the tomentose texture is most prominent at the tips of its lobes. Its lobes are 5โ10 mm wide, and are covered with small secondary lobules, especially along lobe margins and across cracks in the thallus surface. Pimple-like bumps, which may grow clumped together, are visible through the tomentum covering the thallus. Nephroma resupinatum grows on moss-covered rocks and tree trunks, most often in humid forest habitats.
