About Nepeta nuda L.
Nepeta nuda L. is a herbaceous perennial plant that typically grows 50–120 cm tall. It produces multiple erect stems that reach the height noted above. Its leaves range in shape from oblong-obovate and oblong-elliptic to lanceolate. The upper (adaxial) leaf surface is greenish, and is either sparsely puberulent or nearly hairless. The lower (abaxial) leaf surface is pale in color and pubescent; leaf margins are crenate or serrate. This plant produces 5-11 flowered cymes arranged in narrow, long panicles. Its flowering period runs from July to September. It forms fruit as nutlets, which have minutely tuberculate apexes and are sparsely hairy. As a medicinal plant, Nepeta nuda L. is primarily used to make herbal tea. The tea has a slightly pungent aroma described as "between citrus and peppermint". In traditional medicine, it is used to treat hysteria, melancholy, and uterine cramps. It is also taken internally as a decoction to treat cystitis and prostate gland inflammation. Applied externally, it is used to treat wounds and to address mastitis in livestock.
