About Nepenthes reinwardtiana Miq.

Nepenthes reinwardtiana Miq., commonly known as Reinwardt's pitcher-plant, is a tropical pitcher plant. It is native to Borneo, Sumatra, and several smaller surrounding islands: Bangka, Natuna, Nias, and Siberut. Reports that this species occurs in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore are considered erroneous. This species has an unusually broad altitudinal distribution, ranging from 0 to 2,200 metres above sea level, so it grows as both a "lowland" and "highland" plant. It occurs in many different colour forms, ranging from green to dark red. This species is distinguished by two characteristic "eye spots" on the inner surface of its pitchers. Its specific epithet reinwardtiana honours Caspar Georg Carl Reinwardt.
