About Neottia convallarioides (Sw.) Rich.
Neottia convallarioides (Sw.) Rich. is a rhizomatous perennial herb that reaches 10 to 35 centimeters in height. It produces one pair of green oval leaves, each 2 to 7 centimeters long, positioned near the base of the stem. Its inflorescence is a small raceme bearing green or yellow-green flowers. Each individual flower has 3 reflexed lance-shaped sepals, 2 similarly shaped petals, and a lobed, wedge-shaped labellum that is 9 to 13 millimeters long. This plant sometimes forms large colonies that act as groundcover, and it is known to hybridize with Neottia auriculata. It grows in moist habitats including woods, forests, swamps, and streambanks. It is native to most of Canada and parts of the United States: Alaska, the Great Lakes Region, New England, and the mountain ranges of the West such as the Rockies, Cascades, and Sierra Nevada. There are also reported occurrences of the species in St. Pierre & Miquelon and on the Komandor Islands of the Bering Sea, which are part of the Russian Far East.
