About Neotoxoptera formosana (Takahashi, 1921)
Neotoxoptera formosana, commonly known as the onion aphid, is a species of aphid that belongs to the order Hemiptera. It was first discovered in Taiwan in 1921, and has since spread to regions all around the world. This aphid has a dark reddish brown coloration. Its known host plants are all species in the genus Allium: Allium ascalonicum, Allium cepa, Allium chinense, Allium fistulosum, Allium porrum, Allium sativum, Allium schoenoprasum, and Allium tuberosum. Neotoxoptera formosana acts as a vector for garlic latent potyvirus and alstroemeria mosaic potyvirus.
