About Neotibicen pruinosus (Say, 1825)

Commonly called the scissor grinder, this species has the scientific name Neotibicen pruinosus (Say, 1825). In appearance, it is similar to many other species within its genus. Its body is mostly green, marked with many complex patterns, and its abdomen is completely black. A rare pale color variant of the scissor grinder can be found in southeastern Kansas and eastern Oklahoma; this variant is much lighter in color than the common form. The scissor grinder is distributed across most of the eastern United States. It is common in wooded areas that are often located within grassland environments.
